Seaweek – Kaupapa Moana is New Zealand’s annual national week celebrating the sea and runs from Saturday 6 March to Sunday 14 March 2021. The Vic at Devonport is taking part in this year’s event by hosting a presentation by film-maker Robin Kewell which will be screening at 3pm on Wednesday 10th March. Admission is FREE The films showing are ‘Coastal Waters’ (45mins) ‘Niugini-Islands of Eden’ (24 mins) ‘Bottle’ (5 mins) and ‘Plastic Ocean’ (1 min) with a Q & A afterwards.
PROGRAMME:
‘Plastic Ocean’ (1 min) Created with plastic waste collected from the streets of Bangkok, Thailand. By 2050, scientists predict there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish.
‘Niugini-Islands of Eden’ (24mins) Filmed in the pristine waters of Papua New Guinea and shows the incredible diversity and wealth of marine life that flourishes when distanced from human contact. Filmed and edited by RobinKewell.
‘Bottle’ (5mins) An award winning animation about a transoceanic conversation between two characters via objects in a bottle. (5mins)
‘Coastal Waters’ (45mins)Experience our planet's natural beauty and examine how climate change impacts all living creatures in this ambitious documentary of spectacular scope.
This special Seaweek screening will be followed by a Q&A session from underwater cameraman Robin Kewell.
Robin Kewell has been a cameraman for over 30 years making mostly documentary films and specialising in underwater filming . In the mid 90’s he was commissioned to make a series of films for Discovery Channel called ‘Ocean Oases’ which feature six remote places in our World’s oceans. This special screening at the Vic will include one of those films which was shot in the waters of east Papua New Guinea.
